  1. Replit CEO says it no longer works with Anthropic, citing cost and performance

Replit co-founder and CEO Amjad Masad said onstage at TechCrunch Disrupt that Replit is no longer working with Anthropic, citing cost, partnership and performance, and adding that "ChatGPT is better now"; he said both its internal benchmark and a public benchmark consistently show Sol and Astra perform better at building vibe-coded applications from scratch. Replit announced a partnership with OpenAI in August, and there had been no indication its Anthropic relationship had ended, though one person familiar said the partnership is still in place and a September blog post still cited Claude Fable 5 and Claude Fable 5.1 in Replit Agent's production environment. Masad also said enterprise contracts grew from about 2% of revenue last year to roughly 15% this year, with B2B now more than half of revenue, and argued agents need a habitat with good orchestration, error recovery, safety, sandboxing and identity controls.

  2. Stack Overflow for Agents triples signups with ChatGPT plugin

OpenAI published a customer story describing how Stack Overflow built a knowledge intelligence platform on its models. According to Stack Overflow VP of Product Alexandra Lato, Stack Overflow for Agents is powered by GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6 Sol with tasks routed between models based on required reasoning and cost, while engineers used Codex to build the product — two engineers shipped a full product in a few weeks. She said the ChatGPT plugin the company built tripled registrations “overnight,” that agent creation reached “10X last time I checked,” and that Codex cut connector build times from an average of 3–6 weeks to 4 days, with one connector built in a single day; Stack Overflow is also weighing OpenAI's Decisions API to reduce model routing and configuration work.

  3. OpenAI retires GPT-5.5 from ChatGPT and Codex as older APIs face sunset

On October 14, OpenAI retired GPT-5.5 from ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work and Codex sessions signed in with a ChatGPT account, while API access and API-key Codex sessions remain unaffected. Specified versions of GPT-4o, GPT-4o mini, GPT-4.1 and GPT-4.1 mini are also counting down to discontinuation on January 14, 2027, leaving developers roughly three months to migrate; OpenAI advises checking model settings on older tasks and switching to replacement versions. Reports say GPT-5.5 shipped in April 2026 and was superseded by GPT-5.6 and GPT-6 in under six months, and some Reddit users have posted prompt-writing guides to carry its tone and habits into private API setups, citing MentalHealthBench scores — user claims rather than official statements.

  4. Artemis launches Orion-1, a security model it says beats GPT-6 Sol on its own benchmark

US startup Artemis Security has launched Orion-1, a purpose-built security model that investigates and responds to attacks on corporate networks on its own. It pulls log data from auth services, cloud environments, corporate endpoints, SaaS apps and network gear, links signals such as an account login, new cloud permissions and a freshly created inbox rule to a single attacker, then assigns a confidence score, locks in a verdict and recommends or kicks off countermeasures. On Artemis' own Decision-Grade Readiness benchmark, Orion-1 scored 80.8 in attack reconstruction versus 58.3 for the next-best model, GPT-6 Sol, and also faced Claude Opus 5.5, Grok 4.7 and Kimi K3; Orion-1 is in private preview with select customers, where high-impact actions require human approval by default.

  5. OpenAI details Third Moment Research's 10,000-agent runs lasting 36-48 hours

OpenAI published a customer case study on how startup Third Moment Research runs a self-improving agent system on its models: 10,000 agents at once inside Docker environments, with individual investigations lasting 36 to 48 hours. The team says Codex working with GPT-5.6 analyzed thousands of recorded simulation trajectories and found that backtesting a year of order-level US equity data took hours; Codex then identified caching and memory-packing fixes and shipped them to production, cutting a backtest from roughly 3 hours to roughly 3 to 5 minutes. Third Moment wraps the inner Codex harness in an outer model driven by GPT-6 Sol or GPT-6.1 Sol that decides whether to retry, terminate or escalate to a human, and uses the Daybreak security platform for sandbox penetration testing; per 36Kr, the setup consumes about 1 trillion tokens a day, with GPT-6.1 Sol the most-used model for its token efficiency.

  7. Study: AI agent teams cost 1.8–5.1x more for little quality gain

Evals company Vals AI tested GPT-6 Sol and Claude Opus 5.5 on its Vibe Code Bench both as single agents and as agent teams, at medium and maximum reasoning effort. Teams cost between 1.8x and 5.1x more than single agents, yet only one of four comparisons showed a statistically significant improvement: GPT-6 Sol at medium reasoning, where the team scored 7.3 points higher; at maximum reasoning, neither Sol's nor Opus 5.5's team gained a real advantage. The report also notes that in two of Anthropic's own tests with Opus 5.5, quality gains shrank as more agents were added, while OpenAI researcher Noam Brown has said multi-agent systems mainly buy speed rather than better quality.

  8. Inside the OpenAI–Anthropic feud: Amodei's exit and the rivalry that followed

A retrospective by Chinese outlet Gelonghui (republished by 36Kr) recounts the December 2020 OpenAI all-hands where the screen went black and Dario Amodei left with six core members, an episode internally dubbed "The Divorce," tracing the rift to the 2017 "Countries" AGI-consortium idea, an unwritten promise tied to Microsoft's $1B investment, and OpenAI's refusal to give Amodei's safety team veto power over model releases. It says Anthropic was founded in 2021 with plans for only 50 staff and cites 2026 rivalry figures: a $65B round in May at a $965B post-money valuation versus OpenAI's $852B, Anthropic at $65B annualized revenue by late July against OpenAI's just over $40B, and Menlo Ventures data showing Anthropic ahead on enterprise LLM spend 40% to 27%, with Claude Code at roughly 54% of the coding segment. It also says that on Oct 7 OpenAI pushed GPT-6 to all ChatGPT users (paid tier GPT-6 Sol, free tier GPT-6 Luna) while Anthropic released Claude Haiku 5.5 at $0.10 per million input tokens, about 75% cheaper than the prior generation.

  9. Microsoft launches Decision-1, a structured-decision model built on Qwen3.5-9B

Microsoft released Microsoft-Decision-1 in Microsoft Foundry, a model built for structured decision scoring: given a fixed set of options it returns a calibrated probability for each, which software can consume directly for routing, classification, prioritization, verification, agent controls, data labeling and AI judging. It is post-trained from the open-weight Qwen3.5-9B, with OpenRouter availability planned. Microsoft says it ranked first in accuracy across 36 benchmarks covering nearly 150,000 questions, runs 35x faster than GPT-6 Sol at P50 latency, and is priced at $0.042 per million input tokens with output tokens free; Xbox Research reported labeling over 10,000 feedback items at comparable quality to GPT-6 Sol, more than 14x faster and about 200x cheaper. Microsoft says it plans to rebase the system on other models, including its MAI models and OpenAI technology.
