- Google puts Earth AI geospatial agents to work in partner trials
Google Research said it gave a small group of partners early access to an experimental Earth AI geospatial agent. WHO AFRO’s Dakar emergency hub used the Geospatial Reasoning agent at the start of the 2026 Ebola outbreak in the DRC, cross-referencing satellite imagery, mining sites and population data to pinpoint 48 exposed settlements and more than 45,500 at-risk people in minutes — a process Google says normally takes weeks. The DRC’s INRB used the Planetary Prediction Engine to estimate Ebola spread risk, while People in Need, GiveDirectly, WPP and the Milken Institute described their own uses.

A Google Research blog post describes how its Earth AI planetary geospatial foundation models were applied in a set of public health collaborations. In an MMR vaccination cross-border extrapolation study across 146 US–Canada border counties, capturing cross-border mobility and information spillovers produced a 36% relative gain in explained variance (0.159 to 0.216, statistically significant). Cardiovascular mortality nowcasting across 3,091 US counties was comparable to census-based models (mean absolute error 18.7 vs 19.1 deaths per county, not statistically significant), while dengue forecasting in Mexico gained a statistically significant one-month improvement through TimesFM integration, with accuracy improving in up to 72% of active transmission municipalities. Other cases include postpartum depression risk prediction with the University of Washington on 332,970 CDC PRAMS respondents (AUC +0.0020 and +0.0038) and cholera onset prediction with WHO AFRO across 403 health zones in the DRC (+9.7% AUPRC at four weeks).
