   IT之家 AI reported that a 1,024-card Ascend 950DT liquid-cooled AI supernode commissioned by Hubei Science and Technology Investment has gone live in Wuhan. Project representatives said the deployment uses LingQu architecture, provides 1 EFLOPS of FP8 compute and 256 TB of globally unified memory, and is intended to support trillion-parameter model training, industry-agent development and inference; no independent benchmarks were provided.

   DeepSeek helps shape Huawei AI chips; Ascend 950DT pretraining eyed for late 2026

   DeepSeek is working closely with Huawei to shape the design of future AI chips, according to The Information, which cited two people familiar with the matter. Huawei engineers have been stationed at DeepSeek's offices for an extended period and are folding the model maker's requests into design decisions, such as how models calculate and move data between processors, for chips due next year and beyond. Chinese reports citing the same reporting add that DeepSeek plans to begin using Huawei's Ascend 950DT for pre-training as soon as the end of 2026, with testing still underway, and that Huawei intends to allocate most of the capacity of its Ascend 960DT, due in the first quarter of 2027, to DeepSeek for both training and inference; neither company has confirmed the accounts.

   Quant hedge funds flock to Ulanqab as GPU prices triple and compute arms race intensifies

   A 36Kr repost of a Yuanchuan Investment Review feature reports that Chinese quant hedge funds are moving training data centers to Ulanqab in Inner Mongolia to tap cheap wind and coal power as GPU costs surge. One quant fund manager said graphics card prices have roughly tripled over the past year, with an 8-GPU A100 server rising from about 400,000 yuan to more than 1.2 million yuan and monthly rent for such a machine climbing from 30,000–40,000 yuan to 80,000 yuan. The article also cites Bloomberg saying DeepSeek plans an approximately 1GW AI data center in Ulanqab with at least 160,000 Huawei Ascend 950DT chips, a claim not confirmed by DeepSeek or Huawei.
