- iPhone Duo preorders slip to late January, a record wait for Apple
Apple opened iPhone Duo preorders on October 16, but within about half an hour the US online store showed a January 25 ship date for every color, capacity and carrier configuration — a record wait for a new iPhone. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman attributed the backlog mainly to "extraordinary supply chain constraints," with tricky components reportedly hitting high failure rates in manufacturing. Buyers wanting one sooner can try carriers or retailers: T-Mobile and Best Buy list October 23 to November 3, AT&T shows November 9 or December 1, and Verizon November 6 to December 4; the phone goes on sale in the US on October 23, and Apple stores typically hold limited in-store stock.
ZDNET AI · 🔥 11 - AI dev firm Vibetech exposed 13.7M records from past breaches
Security researcher Jeremiah Fowler found an unauthenticated database holding 13.7 million records drawn from previous data breaches and leaks, including names, phone numbers, email addresses, passwords and bank account details. The archive was sorted by company, with almost 8 million records tied to an AT&T leak plus Amazon (1.2 million), Walmart (420,000), BluBank Digital Bank (24,000), PayPal (18,000), the FBI Employee Directory (4,084) and Interpol (929). Fowler linked the database's IP address to a data intelligence platform operated or developed by Indian software development platform Vibetech, which he speculates was collecting breach datasets and accidentally left them public; after he notified the company and its hosting provider, the database was restricted, and a day later the IP showed an ISMS compliance platform dashboard instead.
TechRadar · 🔥 0 - AI creates new jobs, but the entry path is narrowing
An analysis piece argues AI is creating new roles such as agent developer and embodied-AI robot application technician, but the entry path for ordinary workers is not widening at the same pace. It cites a September McKinsey Global Institute report estimating about 11 million US workers may need to change occupations by 2035, with only roughly 14% having direct transition paths needing little reskilling and no significant pay cut. It also points to a Stanford Digital Economy Lab study updated in August that found 22–25 year-olds in AI-exposed occupations grew about 19% below peers in less-exposed jobs, mainly through reduced hiring, and to a Technical University of Munich experiment with 275 programming students where AI users scored better on exercises without matching knowledge gains. On Oct. 8, Reuters reported AT&T moved document review and legal research from outside junior lawyers to an internal 38-person LegalEdge team working with AI, cutting outside billable hours; Ropes & Gray lets over 1,000 lawyers count up to 100 hours of AI training toward billable requirements.
虎嗅 AI · 🔥 0 - Enterprises Shift AI Spend to Open-Weight Models, Pressuring Closed-Model Pricing
Third-party data and company interviews cited in the report show US enterprises moving routine AI workloads off the priciest frontier models and onto cheaper open-weight alternatives. AlphaSense found mentions of "open-weight" or "open source" models on US earnings and investor calls in August–September were six times the year-earlier level; Vercel said open models handled 56% of tokens on its AI Gateway in August versus 7% in December; and Citi data cited by Reuters put OpenRouter's open-model token share at 65% in June, up from 34% in January. Examples include AT&T running roughly 40% of AI workloads on open models with plans to reach 70% within a year, Tinder and Harvey routing routine tasks to open models, and Cursor cutting the cost of building a browser from scratch from over $10,000 with GPT-5.5 alone to $1,339 using its own Composer model plus Anthropic Opus 4.8.
36氪 人工智能 · 🔥 0 - Enterprise AI Deals Depend on Deployment, Not Just Models
An analysis of a resurfaced 2024 interview with Scale AI founder Alexandr Wang argues that Palantir’s enterprise AI growth depends on customer perception, on-site engineering and trust-building as much as on software. It says OpenAI and Anthropic are developing similar deployment capabilities, including frontline deployment engineers and partnerships intended to embed AI systems into regulated enterprises.
钛媒体 · 🔥 0 - NVIDIA promotes open models for telecom AI and announces Nemotron 3 LTM
NVIDIA says telecom operators are increasingly using open models to gain more control, customization and deployment flexibility across network operations and customer care. It also announced the 30-billion-parameter Nemotron 3 Large Telco Model, fine-tuned by AdaptKey on open telecom datasets, and released a NeMo-based recipe for adapting open models to operator-specific data.
NVIDIA Blog · 🔥 0 - Hark launches Hark Pro, a free proactive AI assistant for everyday tasks
Hark, the startup founded by Brett Adcock, launched Hark Pro on Oct. 6 — a personal AI assistant available on web, iOS and Android, free at the standard tier with paid plans at $20/month for twice the usage and $100/month for ten times. It is built on a model trained specifically for computer use, and its cloud computer Handoff is said to operate as many as six browsers at once and log into sites on a user's behalf to order groceries, pay bills, book rides or reserve parking, with Action Buttons for one-tap approvals. Hark says credentials and payment details sit in an encrypted "Secured by Hark" vault that even the company cannot see, and says it will not sell user data to advertisers; first hardware is promised for 2027 with AT&T cellular service.
